Google: a purchase history compatible with privacy?

Have you ever noticed, in the "Payments and subscriptions" section of your Google account, the option "Manage purchases"?

It provides access to a list of “your transactions, including deliveries and online orders, made through Google services”.

Play Store and Assistant are mentioned on the help page for this feature. Gmail is too… and opens up data collection on a whole new scale. In this case, Google detects all purchases that have given rise to the issuance of an electronic receipt.

Inseparable

CNBC is interested in the possibility of erasing this data. It turns out that the only solution is to delete the emails containing the supporting documents one by one.

Google : un historique d’achats compatible avec la vie privée ?

We came to the same conclusion. Including going through the "My Activity" page, where Google says you can "view and edit" the data in question. Transactions made through Google services can be erased from this activity feed. But they remain displayed in the purchase history as long as the associated receipt has not been deleted.

Google says the shopping list is private and doesn't use it for ad targeting, like all of Gmail's data.

Privacy is one of the key words in the current discourse of the American group. His boss Sundar Pichai insisted on reminding him through a forum relayed last week by the New York Times, in line with the promises made at Google I/O.
