Animal mistreatment: the valid Senate but maintains animals and animals in circuses and delphinariums

A historical proposal: the law against animal abuse which had been voted almost unanimously last January by the National Assembly, has just been validated at first reading this Thursday, September 30.

This text, carried by the presidential majority, which aims to fight against the mistreatment of domestic animals and animals of wild species, while improving their conditions of detention, is declined in four axes, as is specified on the Senate site.

Several measures found in committee

The Senate therefore validated at first reading the bill with the withdrawal of several measures, in particular those which prohibited pet stores and wild animals in itinerant circuses and delphinariums, as reported by Franceinfo.

Avoid compulsive animal purchases

To avoid too massive abandonment, the bill proposed prohibiting the sale of cats and dogs in the pet stores.The deputies also voted in this favor.

Senators, they preferred to derive this measure, but agreed to prohibit the animals in the window or postal shipping, and to supervise the sale on websites in particular.

Circuses and delphinariums

On the question of the prohibition of the detention of wild animals in the itinerant circuses and in the Delphinariums, the senators simply reached the measure, which had however been voted by the deputies.

For circuses, senators offer to establish a list of species of prohibited animals.

With regard to the Delphinariums, to support their refusal, the senators rather recommend using specialists to establish new regulations in the structures concerned so that their cetaceans can be taken care of.

Cat sterilization

The measure specifying that the identification and sterilization of cats which were necessarily of the competence of the mayors was also rebuilt by the Senate.
