The six steps to surrender to Providence

What if we invite Providence into our lives? An act of absolute trust, Providence pushes us to rely on God while remaining fully in charge of our lives. Providence, instructions for use.

Corinne SIMON/CIRICDaily life

Our era, which asks us to control everything, stretches out its increasingly fashionable “letting go” programs. The Church, far from these very egocentric observations, proposes on the contrary to abandon ourselves in the arms of Providence. It goes much further than letting go: it is a school of trust in God. Providence is to be certain that God will provide as long as we leave Him the free field and the time for His Will to be accomplished. A complicated exercise at first, this path quickly turns out to be joyful and liberating, provided we know how to look at the work of God in our lives. But in practice, how?

1. Take an act of faith

At each Pater Noster we recite: “Thy will be done. ". Providence can only be exercised daily if we do not firmly believe in these words. A father cannot leave his children alone in the face of a difficulty. Let's take the time to entrust him with our little practical worries: new equipment to buy for the house, an uncertain future, a financial concern, a difficult choice... and trust him. Let Christ lead your boat in the storms: it is he who calms them. He will solve your entrusted concern in his time!

2. To trust and to allow time

The experience of Providence is also to abandon oneself in the sure arms of God. You have to accept not to control everything. The little sisters of the Lamb, who live by begging, often testify that the most beautiful encounters, the most beautiful gifts, are those received during periods of great lack for them, of hunger or money. Putting one's trust in Christ also means agreeing to give him the time to hear us, leaving aside our attraction for immediacy.

3. Help yourself and Heaven will help you

If you call on Providence, don't think you can sleep peacefully while the Good Lord takes care of your worries! You have to continue to give yourself trouble in your daily life and to do things out of love. God uses us to exercise Providence: we are instruments of his grace. Let us therefore continue our daily efforts, certain that He will answer us.

4. Recognize God's winks and give thanks

Now that you have confided your concern, do not hesitate to pray to the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the signs and "God winks" that are there. will have. A meeting, a word spoken by another person, or sometimes even a journalistic one will be the answer given. So let us keep our eyes open to the world, and know how to give thanks to God for his Providence.

5. Accept that the answers are not always those expected

Finally, there is always a small condition of use: do not appeal to Providence if you have already decided what the Good Lord's answer would be... If we use the expression “surrender”, it is good that we must also accept the failures and the negative responses of God, who, as a good Father, educates us. God's time is not that of men and it is only in paradise that we will have the clear vision of the Divine Will on our destiny.

6. Savoring the rediscovered inner peace

When you succeed in trusting Providence, many are those who testify, like Anna, 50 years old: "To entrust your worries to God to God and to let him act, that allows me to rediscover serenity with Christ. I am at peace with the events that happen to me and the decisions made, because I decided, before all that, that I was only an instrument of His Will. “All you have to do is try.
