D-Day for the sales. They start this Wednesday, January 12 and continue until February 8. Unlike promotional operations throughout the year, the sales period is the only time when traders are allowed to sell their stock at a loss. They are nevertheless subject to specific regulations. A few details to make the most of the sales in store or online.

Products on sale for at least one month

Sales can only relate to items that have already been offered for sale for at least one month. Thus, the reference price before the sales must be indicated and this price should be the lowest price practiced before the sales. The trader does not have the right to buy products to sell them exclusively during the sales period or to replenish his stock during this period. In the store, sale products must be clearly identified and separated from non-sale items.

Beware of the initial price

In store, do some scouting before the sales, you can check yourself that the discount is indeed on the initial price and not on an artificially inflated price. On the internet, to know if you are getting a good deal, compare prices on different sites. Pay attention to incidental costs (preparation, delivery, file, etc.) which increase the final price and beware of discounts of up to 90% to finally arrive at the same price as the competition.

No exchange in store

If the item does not suit you or no longer suits you (size, color), make a distinction between purchasing it in store and purchasing it online. In store, the merchant is not obliged to exchange or refund. He may agree to do so on a commercial basis only. But he will not do so if he has clearly indicated it by posting. On the internet, distance selling regulations apply : you have a withdrawal period of 14 days from the day of receipt of the item. You will be able to exchange your item or be reimbursed, without penalty and without having to justify your decision.

Unchanged warranties

Whether an item is on sale or not, the rules regarding warranties are the same. You always have the three guarantees : commercial guarantee of the seller, legal guarantee of conformity and guarantee of hidden defect which apply even for an article "neither taken back nor exchanged". we saw a show on "sales .. .the pretty coat from a brand that you spotted a while ago is on sale and much cheaper... .great! it is not exactly the same and the quality and finish is much worse than the one you had spotted !!!! we saw all this in a serious report !!! or prices increased some time before the sales and lowered on the day of these sales!!! or unsold items from past years!! there are certainly good things but above all a lot of scams!
